Studio build

We were approached to build a workspace for a client that met her needs while fitting into a tight area in the backyard of her town section. We worked closely with the architect and client to make sure all the must-have items were met while staying on budget and fitting into the space available.

Our client was retiring and needed a space to both continue doing work that was of interest, and house her extensive collection of books. She had a modest single car garage which we removed to create enough room for her new workspace.

Before

The garage was just behind this awning:

The design comprised of a 1.5 story building with a workspace, library and bathroom on the first story and a cantilevered storage area above.

The main workspace has nice view of the herb garden and a custom desk was built to match the bookcases.

Access to the storage area above is through a fold away staircase. The floor in the area is an open grid work of wooden planking. Late afternoon light filtering through creates a nice effect.

The bookcases were made from Plytech’s Spectrum Eco and compliment the Marmoleum Flooring. LED up lighting mounted on the bookcases provides ambient light.
