About Black Dog Builders

Black Dog Builders is a Christchurch-based home alteration and renovation company founded in 2013 by Joshua McCarus.

Our approach to building is based on a simple principle:
"If I was a client and hired a builder, would I be happy with them doing this in my home?"

That simple question can be asked in almost any situation while we're working on a home and it always put things into prospective. It can be asked anywhere from the smallest detail that will be covered and never noticed, to how we conduct ourselves while on site.

As builders, we work on so many different projects in a course of a year it’s possible to lose sight of how important each project is - whether $5000 renovation a project worth 50 times that. Our goal is to treat every project as if it’s something special, because at the end of the day, it is.

We treat our clients exactly as we’d want to be treated, and we place a high value on transparency and honesty. We maintain a strong commitment to finishing projects on time, on budget and to the high standard we are dedicated to. Possibly the best indication of the quality of our work and how happy clients are is in the large percentage of recommendations and repeat work we get.

Black Dog Builders Ltd are Registered Master Builders (Reg. 46567).

This means we have met the criteria for one of the most stringent building association memberships available. It also means we can offer a 10-year Master Builder Guarantee on any project.

Josh is also a Licensed Building Practitioner.
Always check the LBP online register and make sure you are working with LBP who is currently licenced. This ensures you are working with a builder who is legally able to do restricted building work and is up to date with the latest principles and methods.
